GLOUCESTER, Va. — A 92-year-old man died after two vehicles crashed in Gloucester County last week, Virginia State Police (VSP) said.

The accident happened May 30 on Route 17 at the intersection with Crewe Road around 2:20 p.m. According to VSP, a 19-year-old was driving a BMW when it couldn't avoid a Jeep vehicle trying to U-turn at a flashing yellow light.

The Jeep overturned and went into a ditch because of the collision.

VSP identified the Jeep driver as William R. Reid, 92, who was taken to a Newport News hospital with serious injuries. He died on Monday.

The BMW driver had minor injuries, according to VSP, who added that both drivers had their seatbelts on.

VSP said the crash is still being investigated.
