NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A Connecticut man was traveling Interstate 64 in Newport News Saturday evening when authorities say he lost control and struck a guardrail, resulting in his death.
In a release on Wednesday, Virginia State Police (VSP) said 40-year-old Christopher Deigel lost control of his 2005 Ford Mustang GT while heading west near mile marker 249 at around 7:48 p.m. Saturday. Police said he subsequently drove off the interstate and struck a guardrail, causing him to be thrown from the vehicle.
Deigel was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
