Virginia election results for 2024 U.S. Senate, House races

Follow the latest election results for Virginia Congressional races here, as they're reported from state election officials, starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5.

NORFOLK, Va. — After the presidential election, the U.S. Senate contest is at the top of the ballot in Virginia for the November 2024 General Election. There are also 11 elections across Virginia for seats in the U.S House of Representatives.

Below you'll find live election results for how Virginians voted in the presidential election, as well as the state's Congressional races.

The outcome will affect how the country sees itself and how it's viewed across the world, with repercussions that could echo for decades. Here's how Virginians voted.

Virginia Election Results for U.S. Senate: Tim Kaine vs. Hung Cao

With Democrats holding just a one-seat majority, the U.S. Senate could flip pretty easily on Election Night. Republicans need to pick up only two seats to gain control of the chamber. Every seat, including the one up for grabs in Virginia, matters. That race features a very familiar name and face: Democratic incumbent Tim Kaine. He is being opposed by a relative political newcomer at the state-wide level, Republican Hung Cao.

Virginia Election Results for House District 1: Rob Wittman vs. Leslie Mehta

In Virginia's First Congressional District race, voters will pick between Republican incumbent Rob Wittman, who has held that seat since 2007, and the challenger, Democrat Leslie Mehta, who has been a litigator, a civil rights attorney and legal director of the ACLU of Virginia. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Leans Republican."

Virginia Election Results for House District 2: Jen Kiggans vs. Missy Cotter Smasal

It is the race you can't ignore, even if you wanted to. The candidates in Virginia's Second Congressional District blanketed the airwaves with ads. Jen Kiggans, the Republican incumbent, is running on her record as a member of the House Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Committee. She says she's all for the military and improving their quality of life. Missy Cotter Smasal, the Democrat challenger, said her top issue is protecting women's right to choose. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Leans Republican."

Virginia Election Results for House District 3: Bobby Scott vs. John Sitka III

Virginia's 3rd Congressional District race this November features Democrat Bobby Scott, who has served in the House of Representatives since 1993, and Republican challenger John Sitka III, who believes it's time for a change. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Strong Democratic."

Virginia Election Results for House District 4: Jennifer McClellan vs. Bill Moher

Virginia's Fourth Congressional District is currently represented by Democrat Jennifer McClellan, who entered Congress in 2023 after serving for 17 years in the state legislature. The challenger this year is Republican William "Bill" Moher III, who describes himself as "a dynamic entrepreneur and tech visionary," and is making his first run for public office. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Strong Democratic." 

Virginia Election Results for House District 5: Gloria Tinsley Witt vs. John McGuire

Incumbent Republican Bob Good lost his primary election, leaving the seat open. Republican John McGuire and opponent Gloria Tinsley Witt have raised about $1.6 million and $335,000, respectively. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Leans Republican."

Virginia Election Results for House District 6: Benjamin Lee Cline vs. Ken Mitchell

Republican incumbent Ben Cline has raised $960,000 for this race, compared to $189,000 raised by Democrat challenger Ken Mitchell. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Strong Republican."

Virginia Election Results for House District 7: Eugene Vindman vs. Derrick Anderson

Incumbent Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, announced last year she would not run for reelection in order to seek a gubernatorial nomination in 2025. As expected in a competitive district with an open seat, million in cash has poured into this district. Democrat Eugene Vindman has raised $15.6 million, compared to $2.8 million for Republican Derrick Anderson. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Competitive."

Virginia Election Results for House District 8: Donald Sternoff Beyer Jr. vs. Jerry Torres

Democrat incumbent Don Beyer has out-raised his opponents, including Republican challenger Jerry Torres, with about $1.8 million raised for Beyer compared to $572,000 for Torres. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Strong Democratic."

Virginia Election Results for House District 9: H. Morgan Griffith vs. Karen Baker

Incumbent Morgan Griffith has raised more than $925,00 for this race, compared to more than $214,000 for challenger, Democrat Karen Baker. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Strong Republican."

Virginia Election Results for House District 10: Suhas Subramanyam vs. Mike Clancy

Democrat Jennifer Wexton announced last year she would not seek reelection to her seat, citing health issues. Democrat Suhas Subramanyam has raised more than twice the amount of Republican opponent Mike Clancy. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Competitive."

Virginia Election Results for House District 11: Gerald Edward Connolly vs. Michael Van Meter

Incumbent Democrat Gerry Connolly has raised more than $2.3 million more than challenger Michael Van Meter, who also ran unsuccessfully for State Senate District 33 last year. The Virginia Public Access Project rates this district as "Strong Democratic."
