NORFOLK, Va. — Democrats will take control of the Virginia General Assembly after sweeping Tuesday's legislative elections, pushing back efforts by Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin for a "trifecta" in state government.
While some races are still too close to call, Democrats are projected to have at least 21 seats in the 40-seat Virginia Senate, and at least 51 seats in the 100-seat House of Delegates. The outcome is a sharp loss for Youngkin and his fellow Republicans, who exerted a great deal of energy, money, and political capital in their effort to secure the legislature.
Many of the races critical to determining party control of the legislature were in Hampton Roads. Here's a look at the results in the region.
