VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A medical clinic is helping students stay healthy as they head back to school.
Old Dominion University (ODU) Community Care is holding its third annual Back-to-School community health event on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center. Organizers said it promises to be a day filled with health, fun, and community spirit, offering essential services and resources to K-12 students in the Hampton Roads area.
A collaborative effort between ODU Community Care and local partners, this event will bring students and faculty together to provide free school and sports physical exams. In addition to physical exams, the event will offer vision, dental, and hearing screenings, all at no cost to the students or their families.
But that's not all: ODU's beloved mascot, Big Blue, will be making a special appearance at 3 p.m., adding a touch of fun and excitement to the day. Kids and families alike will have the chance to meet Big Blue and snap some photos.
The event is further enhanced by collaborations with external partners, providing an array of food and health resources.
Food Lion is providing 150 bags of non-perishable food items, ensuring that families have access to nutritious meals. The Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) Health for Life program and the Virginia Department of Health will each have resource tables, providing valuable information and support to attendees. Additionally, Sam's Club will be offering discounted memberships.
