PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A man who was shot in Portsmouth Monday night has died from his injuries, police said.
The shooting happened in the 1400 block of Maple Avenue, which is near Elm Avenue and Duke Street. According to the Portsmouth Police Department, officers responded around 7:20 p.m. Monday after gunfire was reported.

Responding officers found a man, later identified as Carlton Jermaine Sherrod Jr., with gunshot wounds. Medics took him to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police didn't say what led to the shooting or if there are any suspects.
