NORFOLK, Va. — The 13News Now Weather Team has declared Thursday, Aug. 29 a Weather Alert Day for dangerous heat and humidity.
Unseasonably hot temperatures in the lower 90s paired with dew points in the lower 70s will push our "feels like" temperatures into the 100°-105° range on Thursday afternoon.
Students who have begun the new school year will be particularly vulnerable to the heat and humidity while leaving school in the afternoon and/or at recess earlier in the day.
A Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. for the Virginia portion of the 13News Now viewing area, extending the Weather Alert Day for a second day.

Average high temperatures for the latter part of August typically reside in the mid-80s, temperatures Thursday will be around 6 or 7° above normal.
The good news is that the high heat and humidity will be short-lived as a cold front is forecast to push into the region later in the day on Thursday, shifting our winds and driving down temperatures all while also increasing the risk for showers and thunderstorms.
