Several Hampton Roads events canceled or postponed due to heavy rain, strong winds in the forecast

Because of the impending rain, some Hampton Roads events this weekend have been canceled or postponed. Here's what has been affected so far.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A storm system is approaching Hampton Roads and will bring heavy rain and wind across the region Friday through Saturday.

Because of the impending rain, some events have canceled or postponed some events in Hampton Roads this weekend. Here are the events that have been affected so far: 

  • Hampton Carousel Ceremony
    • It was scheduled for Saturday, but has been postponed to April 6, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
    • The Carousel will still be open with FREE rides despite the weather.
  • Cherry Blossom Festival at Virginia Beach's Red Wing Park 
    • The first two days of the festival, Saturday and Sunday have been canceled. 
    • The festival will continue as planned March 25 - 30.
  • Keep Suffolk Beautiful Recycling Drive & Tire Amnesty Day
    • The event scheduled for Saturday has been postponed.
    • A new date for the event will be announced on the Keep Suffolk Beautiful Facebook page.
  • Sentara's "Don't Sit on Colon Cancer 5K & Survivor Walk" has been postponed to Sunday, April 14.
    • It will be held at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach.
    • Race will start promptly at 9 a.m.
