NSU football player praises half-sister Simone Biles for 'getting gold' at 2024 Olympics

Simone Biles' half-brother, Taron Biles-Walker, is a sophomore on Norfolk State University's football team, and he's also trying to make a name for himself.

NORFOLK, Va. — Simone Biles, considered to be one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, isn't the only athlete in her family.

Her half-brother, Taron Biles-Walker, is a sophomore on Norfolk State University's football team, and he's also trying to make a name for himself.

In his first year at NSU, Biles-Walker played in 10 games for the Spartans. He caught four passes, had five rushing attempts and returned nine kicks. The versatile offensive weapon returns for his sophomore campaign this year, looking to increase his output.

He sees a team in Norfolk that is ready to join him.

"I've seen a big jump from last year, we're more of a brotherhood from last year," Biles-Walker told 13News Now on Wednesday. "A lot of people are coming together, and I feel like we could make some things happen."

Standing in front of a practice field, he said he's striving to be the best on a daily basis — much like his sister, who just keeps making history.

She's only added to her resume in the 2024 Summer Olympics: her eighth career gold medal came in the team all-around competition. Biles led Team USA to the gold medal that eluded them in Tokyo 3 years ago.

Next came the individual all-around competition. Biles prevailed over Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade by just over a point. The win makes her the third woman to win two all-round gold medals, the seventh woman to win at least nine gold medals, and the oldest all-around champion since 1952

And Biles isn't done yet. She'll compete for more gold in the solo events, as well.

Two athletes working for success in their respective fields isn't the only connection for Biles and Biles-Walker. The two are half siblings. Biles-Walker said he's inspired by his half sister's success on the world stage.

"I'm glad that she's doing what she's doing, of course. Getting gold, that's what we want to see," he said. "We strive to be the best every time, that's the only thing I know."
