CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A native son returned home to Chesapeake where it all started.
Grant Holloway, a former Grassfield Grizzly and University of Florida great, was honored fresh off winning his first-ever Olympic gold medal in Paris, France.
The city provided a meet and greet as family, friends, and fans lined up along the sidewalk behind Chesapeake City Hall on Friday afternoon.
"Time is of the essence," he joked about the long lines. He wouldn't have it any other way. "I'd rather have a celebration because I did something rather than be annoyed because I gotta do it versus not having it at all."
The 26-year-old, who won gold in the men's 110m hurdles back in July, was humbled by the turnout.
"I'm blessed. It feels like the whole 757 came out here to show support," he said.
Holloway hasn't been resting on his laurels. In the last few weeks, he's been competing over in Europe since the Paris Games.
"I remember when I first started off in this sport, I didn't have anything," he said. "Now I have quite literally the world in the palm of my hand. I want to work 20 times as hard to keep that."
Before you know it, the Summer Games from Los Angeles will be here in 2028.
