'It hasn't hit me yet:' Chesapeake's Grant Holloway reflects on first Olympic gold medal

26 year old Grant Holloway recently cemented his place in the world of track and field with his first ever gold medal at the recent Paris Olympics.

If you thought Grant Holloway found a sense of relief, even great joy at getting his first ever Olympic gold medal in the men's 110 meter hurdles recently in Paris, France, the answer might be not quite yet.

"It hasn't hit me yet", he said from London, England where he's currently doing a mini training camp. You heard right. The Chesapeake native is still puttin' in work. The 26 year old does understand what he was able to accomplish. He became the first American to win gold in the event since 2012.

"Probably one of the medals that I'm going to cherish for a while", he said. "All the hard work and sacrifice that I've done. Kind of just looking back on it, that was the one thing missing from my resume".

What a resume its been already. Holloway captured a career grand slam in his event. He's got titles in the indoor, outdoor, diamond league and now an Olympic.

"Most people complete only maybe 50% of it", he says. "I'm happy for my team. Happy for everybody that believed in me. Happy for my sponsors that helped me get to that moment"

The former Grassfield Grizzly won silver at the Tokyo Games in 2020, but indicated that now he's got the gold, there's still more to chase.

"Let's keep making this legacy great", he said. "Michael Jordan didn't stop after he won one world title. He kept going and going and going".

Holloway has his sights set on the next challenge which will ultimately lead the next Olympiad in Los Angeles in 2028.

"I just want to continue to work. Make myself to be one of the greats that ever were in the sport".

A path he hopes becomes littered with gold.
