NORFOLK, Va. — The road between Norfolk and Baltimore continues to be busy for the Orioles. On Friday, the parent club of the AAA Tides called up infielder Coby Mayo. He'll take over for another former Tide in Jordan Westburg, who suffered a broken right hand.
Mayo is the #12 overall prospect on Baseball America's top 100, trailing only the recently recalled Jackson Holliday who's at #2. The 22-year-old has slugged 20 homers, 61 RBIs, and hitting .301 in Norfolk this season.
At 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, he's spent most of his minor league career playing third base but has also appeared in 48 games at first base over the past two seasons which could give the Orioles a little more versatility defensively.
Mayo was part of the Orioles’ 2020 draft class, which also produced other young standouts like Heston Kjerstad and Westburg.
