'Absolute confidence' | Virginia Democrats vow continued support for Biden after presidential debate

"Nobody is going to change their mind because of that debate last night," said Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates Don Scott.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Following Thursday's presidential debate, large crowds, including Gov. Glenn Youngkin, flocked to Chesapeake to welcome former President Donald Trump for a campaign rally on Friday.

"We must elect Donald J. Trump as the next President of the United States," said Youngkin.

During the rally, Trump covered border security, the economy, and Thursday night's debate.

"Last night was a defeat not only for Biden but the entire radical left democratic party and the fake news media," said Trump.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden held a campaign in Raleigh, North Carolina.

"Folks, I don't walk as easy as I used to. I don't speak as smoothly as I used to. I don't debate - debate as well as I used to, but I know what I do know; I know how to tell the truth," said Biden.

On Friday evening, several top democrats in Virginia gathered in Portsmouth for the Virginia League of Conservation to celebrate legislative successes. Several Democrats said they will still support Biden.

"As a former professional athlete, we'd practice many times, and sometimes we have a bad game, and it happens. But I have absolute confidence in President Biden to make sure he steers our nation to the future with a steady, moral hand," said Democratic State Senator Aaron Rouse.

Others agreed.

"I'm a hundred percent. He understands the issues just in terms of the economy and also in terms of taking care of national defense but really taking care of our veterans and our families," said Democrat Delegate Michael Feggans.

"I think it could have been better. I don't think it's the end of the world. We've had presidents that had debates that have not been great, said Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates Don Scott of Biden's performance.

"I mean,  have a lot friends, and there's nobody that I know as a result of that debate last night are now going to go on vote on doggone Donald Trump. We know who he is, and he didn't change, so nothing is going to change; nobody is going to change their mind because of that debate last night," added Scott.
