NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Former Vice President Joe Biden could see strong support from Virginians on Super Tuesday.
That's according to a new poll that was just released by Christopher Newport University that surveyed a number of people who are likely to vote on March 3.
The findings show that 22 percent of likely voters will throw their weight behind Biden. Following at close range is Bernie Sanders who is preferred by 17 percent of voters, while 13 percent stand behind Mike Bloomberg.
Another poll that was completed by Monmouth University earlier this month found that most people who will vote in the primary will make pushes for Bloomberg or Sanders.
In the results of the CNU poll, Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren are the choice for eight percent of surveyed voters. Amy Klobuchar polled at five percent while Tom Steyer as one percent.
Another 13 percent of surveyed voters are still undecided.
The poll also asked voters if they would re-elect President Trump or vote for "someone else" when the main election starts in November. "Someone else" was chosen by 59 percent, while 38 percent chose Trump.
A large majority of voters favor reducing student loan debt and more than 60 percent of Virginia voters prefer to maintain their current private health insurance system rather than replace it with Medicare For All.
Biden will be making a campaign push in Hampton Roads ahead of the primary. He will be hosting a campaign event at Booker T. Washington High School sometime on Sunday, March 1 in Norfolk.
Senator Tim Kaine endorsed Biden on Friday nodding to his work with former President Barack Obama on health care expansion, climate change and his appointments of judicial and executive positions during his time in office.
