Tuesday is the last day to register to vote in Virginia for the 2024 election; here are other deadlines to keep in mind

As of October 15, there are 21 days until Election Day.

HAMPTON, Va. — With exactly three weeks until the election, Tuesday, October 15, is the last day in Virginia to vote or update an existing registration.

If you happen to miss Tuesday's registration deadline, voters can still vote in person on Election Day with a provisional ballot.

If you’re planning to vote there are still some important deadlines to keep in mind.

  • Oct. 15 is the deadline in Virginia to register to vote or update your existing voter registration.
  • The next important date after that is Friday, Oct. 25. That is the last day to request an absentee ballot in Virginia.
  • According to the voter registration office, that request must be sent to your local post office by 5 p.m. that day.

There are several federal offices up for election during this cycle, as well as a statewide ballot measure and local office elections. To check which district you vote in, you can check your registration status at the Virginia Department of Elections online portal. Once you input your information, you can see the districts you vote in under "Districts."
