VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Early voting begins Friday, September 20, in the Commonwealth, and the Virginia Beach Elections and General Registrar wants voters to be prepared.
"We're very prepared," said Christine Lewis, the Director of Elections and General Registrar. "We will do our logic and accuracy testing and will test all the units for early voting and then we start voting on Friday at 8 a.m."
During the early voting period in Virginia Beach, Lewis anticipates more than a thousand people will vote daily.
“Our website in a couple of days we have all the sample [ballots] up," she said. "There's a lot of ballots in Virginia Beach, and we just want to make sure the voters are informed.”
She said voter confidence is top of mind ahead of Election Day – whether voters choose to vote in person or by mail – and the Elections Department is following extensive measures to ensure.
In Virginia Beach and across the state, voters are advised to bring an identification card or an I.D. confirmation statement in order to vote.
Then on Election Day, Nov. 5, Lewis said early voting results will be posted an hour after the polls close.
“They can go on our website or the Department of Elections website results will typically be posted on an hour after the polls close and there’s going in throughout the whole entire night," Lewis said.
If you are disabled and over the age of 65, the Virginia Beach election will have curbside service on Princess Anne Road.
