Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group returns to Naval Station Norfolk this weekend

The Ike CSG was deployed for over eight months, where it protected commercial ships from being attacked by the Houthi rebels.

NORFOLK, Va. — The USS Dwight D Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group (CSG) is returning home to Norfolk this weekend, the Navy announced Wednesday morning.

The return comes after the group left the Middle East last month and spent time in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility before crossing the Atlantic. The Ike CSG was deployed for over eight months, where it protected commercial ships from being attacked by the Houthi rebels.

A normal ship deployment lasts for about seven months; the Eisenhower left on its deployment back in October of 2023. In addition to the Eisenhower, its carrier strike group also includes the cruiser USS Philippine Sea and two destroyers, the USS Gravely and the USS Mason.

The Eisenhower will be replaced with the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, according to the Pentagon.

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and USS Philippine Sea homecoming events will take place on Sunday, while homecoming events for the Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3 will take place Friday and Saturday, according to the Navy.
