The aircraft carrier will remain briefly in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility before crossing the Atlantic and back to Naval Station Norfolk.

NORFOLK, Va. — The USS Dwight D Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group (CSG) is returning home.

The Pentagon said the CSG group left the Middle East on Saturday.

The aircraft carrier will remain briefly in the U.S. European Command area of responsibility before crossing the Atlantic and back to its homeport at Naval Station Norfolk.

The Ike CSG was deployed for over eight months, where it protected commercial ships from being attacked by the Houthi rebels.

A normal ship deployment lasts for about seven months; the Eisenhower left on its deployment back in October of 2023. In addition to the Eisenhower, its carrier strike group also includes the cruiser USS Philippine Sea and two destroyers, the USS Gravely and the USS Mason.

The Eisenhower will be replaced with the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, according to the Pentagon.
