YORK COUNTY, Va. — The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has made a second arrest in a fatal Oct. 30 shooting.
The shooting that night happened at the Yorktown Square Apartments in the 200 block of Barham Boulevard. Elysiah A. Lee-Jordan, 19, died in the shooting. His sister, 24-year-old Dania Davis, was injured by a gunshot wound to her leg.
It was Yorktown’s first homicide of the year.
On Nov. 7, Jafay Jabarre Moore, of Newport News, was the first arrest made in the case, deputies said. Moore faces charges including murder and gun-related charges.
Continuing to investigate the case, investigators from the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Newport News Police Department, executed a search warrant in the 1600 block of Madison Avenue in Newport News on Saturday, according to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office.
The post stated they were looking for additional evidence in Lee-Jordan’s death. As a result of information obtained during the search, 27-year-old Dashawn Gwaltney-Bassett, 27, of Newport News, faces charges of murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, willfully discharging a firearm in a public place and reckless handling of a firearm.
He is incarcerated in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
