1 dead, 1 injured after shooting in Yorktown

Deputies responded to a call reporting a shooting at the Yorktown Square Apartments located in the 200 block of Barham Boulevard.

YORKTOWN, Va. — One man died and his sister was hurt after a shooting Wednesday night, the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded to a call reporting a shooting at the Yorktown Square Apartments located in the 200 block of Barham Boulevard just before midnight. When officers arrived, they found Elysiah A. Lee-Jordan, 19, had died. Lee-Jordan's sister, 24-year-old Dania Davis, had a gunshot wound to her leg. Davis was transported to the hospital.

This is the first homicide in Yorktown this year.

"What’s really sad about that fact," York-Poquoson Sheriff Ron Montgomery told 13News Now Thursday, "is we seem to have a lot of young people, particularly in this area, that are dying senselessly of these types of situations."

13News Now also heard from multiple area residents, one of whom showed us her car's shattered windshield. She said bullets caused the damage. "I’m trying to get back on my feet, and this repair is going to set me back," the resident said. "There are shards [of glass] on the seat."

Another area resident said he provided doorbell camera footage to police. He also asked to keep his identity private, saying, "It does make me contemplate whether I want to live here or not. Overall, it has been quite safe for the three years I have lived here."

Most people we spoke to said they heard at least 10 shots fired. No suspects have been named in the incident, and Sheriff Montgomery explained, "We have had several phone calls and investigators are running down those individuals right now to determine what they can tell us."
