WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The president of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation has been charged, months after a car crash involving a William & Mary student.
On Wednesday, Virginia State Police charged 54-year-old Clifford Fleet III, the CEO of Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, with one count of reckless driving in connection with the pedestrian collision.
Fleet is accused of hitting a 21-year-old student at the intersection of Richmond Road and Armistead Avenue in Williamsburg on October 26, 2023. State Police said the student was in the crosswalk when a 2023 Audi driven by Fleet drove into her.
Authorities said the student was seriously hurt but did survive. Fleet stayed at the scene of the accident.
"President Fleet and the Foundation are cooperating fully with law enforcement conducting the investigation and defer further comment on the situation to the Virginia State Police," the Foundation said in a statement to 13News Now after the October accident.
