CURRITUCK, N.C. — Currituck County said services have been fully restored Saturday night, following an outage that impacted much of North Carolina including Currituck County's communications center, which includes dialing 911. Additionally, Perquimans County Emergency Services also reported intermittent disruptions.
During the outage, Currituck officials said Dare County Communications assisted by having Currituck 911 calls routed to Dare County. Dare County then coordinated emergency response as needed.
In Perquimans County, officials said their mutual aid partners at Wilson 911 may answer 911 calls and coordinate assistance. In a social media post, Perquimans Emergency Services said its mutual aid agreements with other North Carolina 911 centers "allows for diversity in call handling equipment and telephone providers, giving our citizens the best opportunity to ensure their call is answered and critical info relayed back to our staff who can dispatch the local responder in both Perquimans and Gates counties."
With some counties impacted while others appear to be functional, it wasn't immediately clear how widespread the outages across North Carolina are.
Officials haven't said what may have caused the outage.
There have been numerous multi-state 911 outages in recent months across the country, including on Virginia's Eastern Shore earlier in the week.
Many of these outages have been the result of human error.
