Virginia Beach Oceanfront celebrates Veterans Day with parade

Veterans, active-duty servicemembers, and local families came out dressed in their patriotic best for the big event.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — People in Virginia Beach celebrated Veterans Day with an annual parade at the Oceanfront.

Scores of people lined the streets of Virginia Beach Saturday morning to pay tribute to the men and women who served in our nation’s armed forces.

Waving American Flags and decked out in red, white and blue, families watched as live bands, veterans and service members marched down the street to commend the military.

Naketa Stoudemire was a volunteer and helped set up the parade before enjoying it with her children.

“My husband’s a veteran and I will be a veteran next year," she said.

The parade included military units from the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

Veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Desert Shield, Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom also participated.

“Oh it’s beautiful, it’s absolutely beautiful! We love our vets! We love our vets!" another spectator, Marcine said.

"It’s just so well-orchestrated and everybody is so nice and they’re waving and everybody’s happy!”

Veterans support organizations, local high school bands, and boy and girl scout troops rounded the parade out.

People who attended say it’s about honoring our veterans and thanking them for their service.

“Being a Navy veteran, we’re here to show support for veterans all across the United States, especially in Hampton Roads," Victor Sanchez said.

The parade ended with a wreath laying ceremony at the Tidewater Veterans Memorial on 19th street.
