Driver charged with involuntary manslaughter after deadly bicycle crash in Virginia Beach

Rodney Coleman turned himself in for the outstanding warrants and is currently being held without bond.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The driver of a vehicle involved in a crash that killed a bicyclist in Virginia Beach has been charged in connection to the accident, Virginia Beach police said.

The crash on the evening of Feb. 26, near the intersection of Princess Anne Road and Lynnhaven Parkway. The bicyclist, 23-year-old James Beckles IV, died at the scene.

On Friday, police said the Commonwealth Attorney's Office approved charges for involuntary manslaughter, reckless speed, and other traffic offenses against the driver of the vehicle.

The driver, 48-year-old Rodney Coleman, turned himself in for the outstanding warrants and is currently being held without bond.

The VBPD's Traffic Safety Unit is continuing its investigation. Detectives ask that anyone who may have seen the accident or have information about it call the Traffic Safety Unity at 757-385-4606 or submit a tip on the P3Tips app.
