VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The intersection of Princess Anne Road and Lynnhaven Parkway is where 23-year-old James Beckles IV life was cut short.
Monday night, family and friends held a vigil in his memory.
Many who spoke to the crowd of over 60 mourners say they’ll remember his infectious smile.
"I miss him so much the fact that I will see those dimples again," one cousin said.
James Beckles IV, also known as "BJ," was a brother, musician, friend and most importantly a father to 7-month-old baby girl. Friends from high school spoke to the love and light he brought to the world.
"So loving, he was such a good person. He was just the light that we all should strive to be," one said.
"He always walked with the best intentions. And he always walked with a smile. And unfortunately, we have lost that smile," another classmate said.
BJ's father, James Beckles III, says his son was working to better his life and always wanted the best for those around him.
"(he was) Energetic, very devoted dad, very loving brother, always wanted to be up to help others," Beckles IIII said.
His father hopes the pain he and his family are experiencing can feel changed so that no one has to go through this again.
"There's got to be some kind of law passed that could that could save these kids' lives," Beckles IIII said.
A growing memorial sits here at the corner of Princess Anne and Lynn Haven. His friends and family plan to lay him to rest this weekend.
Virginia Beach Police are still investigating. Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen the collision to call them. You can also submit a tip on the P3Tips app.
