VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Monday marked the final full day of campaigning in the race between Democratic candidate Missy Cotter Smasal and Republican incumbent Congresswoman Jen Kiggans in Virginia’s Second Congressional District.
The race has garnered significant national attention as it's considered a toss-up and could go a long way in determining which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives in January.

Cotter Smasal was in Virginia Beach’s College Park neighborhood, where she knocked on doors and laid out her priorities if elected.
"Their vote tomorrow can truly protect reproductive rights for generations can truly protect voting rights for generations and ensure the basic programs like funding for public education, like funding for security and medicare are protected," Cotter Smasal said to 13News Now.
Jen Kiggans also worked to secure votes at a rally Saturday in Chesapeake. She was joined by Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and Governor Glenn Youngkin at the rally. Speaking with 13News Now after that rally, Kiggans said she wanted voters to remember what matters to them when they cast their ballot on Tuesday.
"We're excited for Tuesday. I think the voters will be out this year. I think they're voting on things like the economy, the border, community safety, and our national security," Kiggans said.
Cotter Smasal said she's hopeful this last full day of campaigning will play an important role in getting a final turnout push on Tuesday. As for Kiggans, she's holding a final rally Monday night at Ballyhoos in Virginia Beach.
