VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A family member of the 77-year-old Virginia Beach woman hit and killed while crossing the street is speaking out.
In early June, police say a driver struck and killed 77-year-old Lucena Lynch while she attempted to cross Lynnhaven Parkway.
The crash happened in the area of Lamplight Lane. It's unclear what led up to the incident.
Lynch’s daughter, Jennifer Lynch, lives in Texas. She said she learned about her mother’s death after receiving a phone call from police.
The 77-year-old is at least the third pedestrian to be struck on that stretch of road since the start of 2024.
Jennifer says her mother, Lucena, immigrated to the United States more than 40 years ago. She led an active lifestyle, was an avid basketball fan, loved to cook, and was kind to anyone she met.
The tragedy has left Jennifer shocked. “I was just talking to her. You know a person’s gone, and it affects so many people like she’s not one person. Like so many of my family members and a lot of her friends are all affected, and they’re all hurt,” said Jennifer.
Police say the driver remained on the scene. The driver has not been charged, according to police.
If you would like to help Jennifer and her family, a GoFundMe has been set up for Lynch.
