VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — On Saturday, community members hosted Landyn’s Ride in Virginia Beach.
In February, a stray bullet hit 8-year-old Landyn Davis in his head while he was playing a video game inside his home on Peele Court. For several days, he was placed in a medically induced coma. His parents said he is still recovering.
One attendee said she came out to support Landyn’s family.
“If this was my child or anyone that I know I would hope that everyone would do the same for me,” said Kym Tatom.
The owner of Crafting Happily After Emmy Sharrow made t-shirts that read 'Landyn Strong.'
“If I were in the same situation, I would want someone to do the same thing for me,” said Sharrow.
Raemy Carey and Ryan Moore organized Saturday’s ride. Carey and Moore said they know Landyn’s parents.
“When I got the call from Ryan, there was no question in my mind whether we should do this or not,” said Carey.
“Obviously, [his] parents need to be beside him. The medical bills are piling up as well as their personal bills. So our goal today is to help them along their journey and make sure that he has the opportunity to cover,” and Moore.
While the day was filled with live music, a raffle and a silent auction, supporters had one clear message.
“Justice for Landyn,” said Tatom.
The organizers said all funds raised from the event would go to Landyn’s family.
