PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A man charged with Voluntary Manslaughter following a 2019 shooting in Portsmouth was found guilty on Wednesday, the Office of the Portsmouth Commonwealth's Attorney released on Thursday.
Tyquan Anderson was also found guilty of two counts of Unlawful Wounding and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
On June 1, 2019, a shooting on Mt. Vernon Avenue in the London Oaks neighborhood left 28-year-old Robert E. Artis, Jr. dead and three others injured.
Anderson was arrested days after the incident by the U.S. Marshals and the Chesapeake Police Department Criminal Apprehension Unit, and was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and first-degree murder.
Evidence presented by the Commonwealth showed that the defendant fired multiple gunshots towards someone who was standing near Artis; Artis was not the intended target.
“It is our hope that this prosecution will bring peace and closure to our victim’s family. This office remains committed to pursuing justice for the members of our community," Stephanie Morales, the Portsmouth Commonwealth’s Attorney, said in the release.
Anderson is scheduled to be sentenced on January 29, 2024.
