Arrest made in Sunday's Jefferson Street homicide in Portsmouth

19-year-old Torian Jamari Sexton was arrested and is being held without bond in connection with the shooting.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth police have arrested a suspect for the shooting that killed a man and injured two on Jefferson Street Sunday, authorities have said.

Torian Jamari Sexton, 19, was arrested in connection with the shooting incident that became a homicide. He is currently being held without bond and has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, and several firearm-related charges. 

On Sunday, Portsmouth police were called to the 2300 block of Jefferson Street for a shooting. They discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, two other victims were treated at a local hospital as walk-ins with gunshot injuries. 

The hospital notified Portsmouth police that one of the walk-in victims, 44-year-old Danyelle Akoya Lee, succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital. 

The investigation into this case is ongoing.
