NORFOLK, Va. — A man pleaded guilty on Monday to carjacking two people at gunpoint in April, the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said.
Prosecutors said 35-year-old Cameron Thomas Lake pleaded guilty on Monday to armed carjacking on two different occasions.
On April 7, Lake carjacked a man who had just finished eating in his car at a Sonic drive-in off North Military Highway. Lake walked up to the car, pointed a gun at the driver's window, and demanded the victim leave the car.
Lake then got out of the car and ran up to the victim, demanding the victim to give him the car keys before driving away. The victim's car had GPS tracking which allowed police to find the car two hours later, unoccupied in the parking lot of a strip mall about a mile away from the scene of the crime.
On April 8, Lake carjacked another person in the Home Depot parking lot, also off Military Highway. The victim was on her lunch break and talking on the phone when Lake walked up to her driver's window, pointed a gun at her, and commanded her to hand over her phones, wallet, and keys.
The victim got out of the car and Lake got in. He then threw out the phone and wallet before driving away. This time when police used the GPS tracking system to find the stolen vehicle, Lake was still inside and was arrested.
On Monday, Lake agreed to plead guilty to both carjacking and felon-firearm charges to dismiss other firearm charges.
