NORFOLK, Va. — Dennis Bowman, the man recently arrested for the 1980 murder of a Norfolk woman, was extradited to Virginia on Friday.
Bowman was arrested in Michigan in connection with the death of 25-year-old Kathleen Doyle, who was found murdered in her Norfolk home on September 11, 1980.
She was the daughter of a naval officer and the wife of a U.S. Navy pilot, who was deployed at the time of the murder.
Police arrested Bowman in Allegan County, Michigan, in November where he lived.
Norfolk Police said detectives and NCIS agents had been unyielding in their efforts to bring Doyle’s killer to justice, adding that help from forensic evidence led to Bowman's arrest.
On Wednesday, Allegan County deputies said that there had been a break in a 30-year-old cold case possibly tied to Bowman.
Skeletal remains were found underneath cement in what deputies called a "shallow grave" at a home on the 3000 block of 136th Avenue in Hopkins, Mich.
The home belonged to Bowman.
Bowman's adopted daughter Audria has been missing since March 11, 1989. At the time she was 14-years-old and reported to police as a runaway.
Evidence has been collected from the scene and police are waiting for lab results.
Bowman arrived in Norfolk on Friday and is charged with second-degree murder. He's scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
