NORFOLK, Va. — A person was rescued from the water after falling off an Interstate 264 bridge in Norfolk on Tuesday morning, officials said.
It happened at Broad Creek Bridge by the Elizabeth River, not far from the Military Highway exit, according to a spokesperson for Norfolk Fire-Rescue. Crews responded shortly after 6:30 a.m.
The spokesperson said the man went off the bridge and swam to a channel marker. A water rescue team deployed and rescued the person. Medics took him to a hospital to be treated for injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
The response caused traffic issues on the interstate since the east right center lane, right lane and right shoulder were closed. However, the roadways are moving once again.
