NORFOLK, Va. — The Chrysler Museum of Art is gearing up for a plethora of fun events coming to Norfolk over the next few months.
"We have so much going on," said Stacey Shelnut-Hendrick with the museum.
The first event, the NEON Festival, is happening Thursday and Friday. The free two-day event will feature dozens of artists and performers, with exhibitions and mural tours available.
"We are sort of the prelude to the NEON Festival that happens on the street on Friday," explained Shelnut-Hendrick. "We have performances happening, we have some like glow art happening. There's a wonderful sort of energy that happens around NEON Festival, and we're so happy to kick it off for the 8th annual event."
To get into the fall spirit, the museum is throwing the Halloween Harvest Festival the afternoon of Sunday, October 29 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Shelton-Hendrick said museum staff have a tradition of dressing up as artwork found in the museum. As part of a scavenger hunt, the museum then encourages museum customers to seek out the museum staff in costumes.
But that's not all. The festival will also feature the Ballet of Virginia, the Norfolk Botanic Garden, and the local folk duo Cindy and Shelly Sing.
"I think October is a busy time because of fall and school," said Shelton-Hendrick. "But what's nice about it too is that it feels a little lazy, so to come out and meet your community members is really nice."
Then turning to the holidays, the museum will host a bake-off that is inspired by museum art like stained glass windows and cake sculptures.
The museum also offers docent classes. Docents served as a teacher or guide in the museum and are "the heart of the matter," according to the museum website.
