NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A waste truck caught on fire near Newport News City Center on Friday afternoon, officials said.
According to a Facebook post from the Newport News Fire Department, it happened near Fishing Point Drive and City Center Boulevard.
It's unknown what caused the fire, but officials said no alternative fuel hazards were involved and firefighters extinguished the truck quickly.
Photos shared by the fire department show the roadway being blocked as crews responded to the truck fire. Officials said traffic in the area will be impacted for part of the afternoon, but they didn't share a timeline.
