NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — No one was hurt after a car crashed through the front of a Newport News daycare center on Wednesday.
Newport News police said the crash happened around 12:18 p.m. at the True Heart Child Care and Learning Academy on Warwick Boulevard near Hunter Road.
Officers arrived to find a sedan had gone completely inside the building. Neither the driver nor anyone inside the daycare were hurt.
The Newport News Fire Department responded to the scene to assess the structural damage to the building, and police said the daycare is in the process of reuniting children with their families.
Crystal Levenson, a parent, said the daycare center called her about the incident while she was working from home.
“When I came in, I was stunned at just the whole front door being gone," said Levenson.
Throughout the day, parents and guardians picked up their children. One grandparent said she was happy that the kids were taking a nap and that no one was at the front desk at the time of the crash.
“I’m just glad all the kids are well, so that’s a plus, so parents don’t have to worry our kids are well," said Fulissa Godwin.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
It's the second time in the past day that a vehicle has gone into a building in Newport News.
On Tuesday, the Newport News Fire Department said a vehicle crashed into a business on Jefferson Avenue, near Dresden Drive. Two people were hurt in that accident.
