Second person dies following weekend triple shooting on Gloucester Drive in Newport News

Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew gave an update on the case Monday afternoon.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A second person has now succumbed to their injuries following a triple shooting in Newport News on Sunday morning.

The shooting happened just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Gloucester Drive. One man, now identified as 23-year-old Jesus Hamilton of Hampton, was pronounced dead inside an apartment.

Two people were taken to hospitals with serious injuries. One has now succumbed to his injuries. He is identified as Jude Forfeuil, 26, of Yorktown.

The third man is in stable condition. As of Monday, he is not considered a suspect.

During a press conference on Monday afternoon, Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew aimed to reassure the community that police do not believe this is a random act of violence.

"This is an isolated act that revolves around illegal substances and firearms," Drew said. "We believe there was an association, some known individuals, with reasons for being there."

He added that police do not believe there is any relation to the Sept. 17 shooting death of a 17-year-old on the same block.

Chief Drew said detectives have also made progress in that case, going through ordered search warrants, but ultimately no arrests have been made.

Arrests have not been made in Sunday's shooting either, although Drew said there are multiple people Newport News detectives would like to talk to.

Drew ultimately warned against the combination of drugs and guns, saying this is a deadly combination.

"With firearms and narcotics, we know that is always going to have bad chemistry," said Drew. "When those two things mix together... bad things can happen, and that is certainly an angle that we are looking at."

Newport News police request that anyone with any information regarding this incident contact the NNPD at 757-247-2500 or submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or online at P3Tips.com.
