HAMPTON, Va. — A police pursuit in Hampton ended with a car crashing into a woman’s home.
The front porch of the home on Kecoughtan Road is now badly damaged. While the homeowner wanted to remain anonymous, she told 13News Now about her experience.
“I heard this loud impact, and I said, ‘oh, God, somebody had an accident.’ But when I jumped and looked out the window, the car was parked in my yard between the porch and those trees," the homeowner said.
Virginia State Police said at around 1 a.m. Thursday, troopers tried to stop a speeding car on I-664. VSP said the driver, 35-year-old Dequayon Brown, refused to stop and led troopers on a chase to Hampton where he crashed into the front porch of a home.
The homeowner said she was asleep in the living room just feet away from the collision. The Hampton woman said she's shaken by the incident.
“Anxious, very anxious. I can hear a loud noise, and it’s like I’m reliving it," she said.
The woman said her home is more than 100 years old and has been in her family for decades. She said it's difficult to see a home with so much history damaged.
“The stories in here, they’re just what families made of...Christmases, Thanksgiving dinners," she said.
According to VSP, troopers apprehended Brown after he tried to flee on foot. As for her message to the driver, the homeowner had this to say:
“All I can do is just pray for him and hope next time he gets pulled over for speeding, just take the ticket... take responsibility for your actions, take the ticket. This wouldn’t have had to happen," she said.
VSP said troopers recovered cocaine from the vehicle. Brown faces charges of eluding police, possession of an illegal drug with the intent to distribute, driving on a revoked license and one felony count of hit and run.
