CHESAPEAKE, Va. — The City of Chesapeake put out a warning on social media to tell voters they may be receiving election forms in the mail that they haven't requested.

Voter registration applications or absentee ballot applications are being sent out by a DC-based nonprofit organization called the Center for Voter Information (CVI), which is not affiliated with the Chesapeake Voter Registrar’s Office or the Virginia Department of Elections.

A previous story from 2020 about CVI's unsolicited ballot request forms reported errors in the forms' documentation and increasing the anxiety among voters who may have already attempted to request ballots or registered to vote.

To apply to vote absentee by mail or to check the status of an application already submitted, visit the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal, where those interested can also confirm their voter registration.
