Chesapeake woman who allegedly killed her husband said it was done to protect her children

46-year-old Heather Heck is charged with second-degree murder for the death of her husband, Christopher Heck.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A Chesapeake woman accused of murdering her husband was granted a $100,000 bond by a Chesapeake judge on Tuesday.

46-year-old Heather Heck is facing two felonies, including second-degree murder and a gun charge for the death of her husband, 41-year-old Christopher Heck.

Around 7:57 p.m. Friday, officers were called to the 700 block of Sea Palling Lane following reports of a shooting. When they arrived, police found Christopher Heck with serious gunshot wounds.

Just feet away, investigators said they found his wife Heather at the scene. According to recently filed court documents, Heather allegedly admitted to Chesapeake detectives that she shot her husband twice in order "'to protect the children."

Records show the couple had gotten into a heated argument over the children staying over their house, two of whom are the Heck's children, and another two were friends spending the night.

Heather told investigators Christopher became aggressive, demanding the children "keep quiet or he would make them quiet" because the children were being "loud and disrespectful." Heather said Christopher then started to make his way to the second floor of the house, where the children were staying, and Heather ran to get a gun in her bedroom.

At the top of the stairs, Heather admitted that she shot her husband twice, and told investigators she was "unsure what Mr. Heck would do to the children."

Christopher Heck died hours after the shooting. Chesapeake Police took Heather Heck into custody, charging her with the death of her husband.

13News Now has discovered this is not the first time violence has allegedly touched the Heck household.

In late April, Heather was granted an Emergency Protective Order against her husband. She asked for protection from a Chesapeake judge, claiming Christopher threatened to harm her. The protection order only went into effect for four days and expired on May 1, four months before the deadly shooting.

Heather Heck is expected back in court in late December for a preliminary hearing.
