Woman who shot brother in Norfolk works at Richmond City Public Schools, court documents say

According to court documents, a "verbal argument" ended with 32-year-old Kiana Ewell shooting 24-year-old Kimaun Ewell in the "groin" area.

NORFOLK, Va. — A woman who Norfolk police say shot her brother works for a public school system, according to court documents.

The shooting happened in a busy area along Shore Drive near the intersection of East Little Creek Road at around 5 a.m. Sunday morning. Witnesses told 13News Now that detectives centered their investigation around the McDonald’s parking lot.

“When I walked outside, I realized that there was a crime scene less than a hundred feet away, and the police officers asked me to go back inside. They said, ‘Ma’am, please return home. You can’t be out here right now,'" said one eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous.

According to court documents, a "verbal argument" ended with 32-year-old Kiana Ewell shooting 24-year-old Kimaun Ewell in the "groin" area. Investigators say first responders took Kimaun Ewell to the hospital with life-threatening gunshot wound where he later died.

Norfolk police say the victim and suspect are siblings from Richmond. Court documents say the two have "never lived in the Hampton Roads area" and have "no ties to the community."

Court documents list Kiana Ewell as a Richmond City Public Schools employee for roughly seven years. 13News Now reached out to the school division; a spokesperson said they can’t comment on personnel matters.

Kiana Ewell is facing charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm. She is currently in Norfolk City Jail without bond.

13News Now reached out to see if she’d want to interview with us from jail, but she denied our request.
