Murder investigation underway after woman found dead, man injured in Suffolk

Police have not said how the woman was killed or man injured. Here's what we know so far.

SUFFOLK, Va. — A homicide investigation is underway in Suffolk after officers found one woman dead and a man injured when responding to a call on Wednesday morning.

At 7 a.m., officers with the Suffolk Police Department responded to South 10th Street for a call for service. Once there, officers discovered a woman dead and a man with serious injuries. That man was taken to an area hospital for help. Police did not release the man's current condition

Police have not said how the woman was killed or the man was hurt. On Monday, Aug. 12, police updated to identify the woman as 50-year-old Chiffonda Speller of Portsmouth.

Detectives say the investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
