VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The woman already facing charges for shooting a man while he was driving her in Virginia Beach is now facing a murder charge after the 59-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries, authorities announced Tuesday.
Kristin Barber, 34, was officially charged with second-degree murder of Eldron Valery on Saturday, the Virginia Beach Police Department said. She was previously charged with aggravated malicious wounding, shooting in a vehicle, reckless handling of a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and child neglect.
The charges stem from the Oct. 17 incident near the intersection of Indian River Road and Lynnhaven Parkway. Police said Barber, who was a passenger, shot Valery while he was driving in the upper body.
Valery was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. He ultimately died from his injuries on Oct. 30.
