COURTLAND, Va. — The person accused of murdering a mother from Southampton County earlier this year appeared for his arraignment in court Tuesday morning.
Detectives arrested James Goodwyn, Jr. on June 27. He's charged with First Degree Murder in the killing of Cynthia Carver.
Carver disappeared from her home in Southampton County in February. Investigators found her body a month later in Suffolk.
Court documents stated that Goodwyn contacted Carver through Facebook Messenger in February, but lied to detectives when asked about the contact.
At his arraignment Tuesday, the court appointed an attorney for Goodwyn. His preliminary hearing for the murder charge is scheduled for October 29.
Goodwyn's arrest took place in Virginia Beach where he lives. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled there on July 26 for unrelated charges. Those charges include Felony Hit and Run, Driving Under the Influence, Open Container While Driving, and Following Too Close.
