SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. — A spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff's Office said Friday that someone murdered a mother who disappeared from her home in Newsoms in February.
Maj. Gene Drewery told 13News Now that the medical examiner's office determined someone killed Cynthia Carver. The 34-year-old mother died of "multiple sharp force injuries."
The last time anyone who knew Carver saw her alive was February 21. She dropped her children off at a babysitter's home.
Carver was a corrections officer and was supposed to start a new job the following day. She never showed up.
Her mother went to Carver's house and found blood and a knife. Carver's car also was there. Court documents show that when deputies went to the home, they found blood on clothes, sheets, the floor, and in the driveway.
Carver's mother said she was supposed to meet a man whom they didn't know on February 21.
