PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A man has pleaded guilty to a homicide that happened 13 years ago.
42-year-old Michelle McClendon was shot and killed on her street back in November of 2011. Police at the time told us she was found shot multiple times in the middle of Chautauqua Avenue.
For years, no arrests were made, so in September 2023, the unsolved killing was assigned to a cold case investigator. Police said that "after much hard work, persistence, and witness interviews," the investigator identified a suspect, 42-year-old Cameron Parker.
Investigators said on Wednesday, Parker pleaded guilty to manslaughter, about a week before he was scheduled to go on trial for murder. In addition to the guilty plea, gun charges were withdrawn.
Court records show Parker will serve eight years for the McClendon slaying. Parker is already in prison for a 2007 murder in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and his manslaughter sentence will run concurrently with that sentence.
