2 arrested in deadly shooting in Young Terrace area of Norfolk

Trent Turner, 19, and a 17-year-old boy are charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy, according to police.

NORFOLK, Va. — Two people were arrested Thursday in the deadly shooting of a 42-year-old man in the Young Terrace area of Norfolk that happened last month, police said.

19-year-old Trent Turner and a 17-year-old boy have both been charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and conspiracy, according to the Norfolk Police Department.

The shooting happened on Feb. 12 in the 500 block of East Olney Road, which is close to East Virginia Beach Boulevard and Church Street. The police department said officers responded around 11 p.m. that night for a report of a gunshot victim.

Medics took Edward Collins, 42, to a hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound, but he later died from his injuries.

Turner was taken into custody in the 1000 block of Garfield Street in Portsmouth and is being held without bond in the Norfolk City Jail.

The teenage suspect was taken into custody in the 1300 block of Kempsville Road and is being held at the Norfolk Detention Center.
