17-year-old allegedly involved in 3 separate shootings arrested, Portsmouth police say

The most recent shooting the 17-year-old boy is accused of happened on Veterans Day.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The 17-year-old boy allegedly involved in three separate shootings -- including one over the weekend that left an "innocent bystander" dead -- has been arrested, Portsmouth police announced Wednesday.

Ja'Marion Williams is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder, and underage possession of a firearm.

The most recent shooting Williams is accused of happened near London Oaks Apartments in the 1100 block of Virginia Avenue on Nov. 11. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Darrio Murden.

Police said there were four suspects in the shooting, including Williams. LeShon Byrd, 26, of Portsmouth and an unnamed 17-year-old were also apprehended in connection to the shooting.

Williams was not immediately located after Saturday's shooting, prompting police to ask for the public's help in finding him. In the release, authorities warned the teen could be "armed and dangerous."

In October 2022, detectives allege Williams was the driver of a stolen Dodge Ram when one of his passengers, a 17-year-old boy, was shot and other occupants returned fire on two unknown men.

Williams faced several charges related to that shooting, including felony aggravated malicious wounding, felony gang participation and felony possession of stolen property.
