Suffolk camel helped back on its feet by fire-rescue team

SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to an unusual call in the Windsor area on Saturday. A veterinarian requested their help to stand a large animal: a camel!

The SFR Technical Rescue Team, known for their expertise in large animal rescues, arrived to help Saturday morning. The team has specialized training and equipment designed for such unique situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of both the animal and the rescuers.

The veterinarian had previously worked with them in training exercises. 

The camel, due to its size and weight, presented a significant difficulty, but the rescue team and veterinarian were able to work together to upright it. 

Rescuers used a series of straps, pulleys, and other equipment to gently and securely lift the camel back to its feet. Throughout the process, the veterinarian monitored the camel’s condition, ensuring it remained calm and unharmed.

Later that morning, the camel was safely standing and appeared to be in good health.
