NORFOLK, Virginia — Eleven years ago, the El Rey franchise began.
The Zepeda brothers who run and own the place said business is booming. 13News Now stopped by their "El Rey #2" location off of East Little Creek Road in Norfolk, to talk to co-owner Luis Zepeda.
He prides himself in serving authentic Mexican dishes.
"It's homemade, we make our tortillas fresh off the spot, corn, flour. We make everything in house. A bunch of grandmas recipes," he said.
The most popular items include their homemade guacamole and burritos, tacos and Mexican corn also known as "Elotes." They also have a wide array of meats.
"Every hour of the day, different people coming in, getting different tacos. It's amazing to see everybody try the different foods," says employee, Colin Kindred.

The one common feature everyone seems to rave about at "El Rey #2" is the atmosphere.
"This place is always loving. It's more of like a home base. You go to a lot of other places and you have to wait extra long for your checks and your food and you feel like you're not actually a part of the establishment," said customer Blake Baker.
"El Rey #2" runs taco deals every Tuesday, and they also serve up some delicious drinks. Make sure to check them out and as always tell them Madison sent you!
